Tin Can Updraft Stove with a side pipe

Tin Can Updraft stove with a side pipe.

Charring chamber filled with dry biomass surrounds the chimney of a rocket stove using the heat from a starting fire in the lower side pipe to distill the biomass and produce combustible gasses.
These fumes flow through the holes into the chimney pipe where they burn adding to the heat until the biomass is mostly charred.
At this point, the contents of the biomass chamber must be doused with water (or buried sand) to stop further burning (oxidizing) of the remaining carbon (biochar).

Cut a hole in the lid of the container as well as in the side, so the side pipe can go through.

Notice the holes in the pipe where the fumes from the biomass enter the pipe, and burned.

To start the gasifier, a fire is lit in this side pipe.

WARNING:Avoid Breathing Deadly Carbon Monoxide (CO)
